Five for Friday night

Another day, another list of five songs for tonight:

  1. Smoove - As if
Drifty tune and one of my top songs. Buy this record! Highly recommend.
  2. Inell Young - What Do You See In Her?
Female Funk to the fullest and extremely rare. Soul Jazz Records released a limited reissue of this fabulous track. YEAH!
  3. Circle Research - Here to Rock
One of my top discoveries in 2008 and one of my lovely songs from Circles latest release.
    It’s Melting Pot Music!
  4. Lemuria - Hunk of Heaven
Amazing song from a Hawaiian Band and used for Discomehl by Spax and MB1000.
  5. Clara Hill’s Folkwaves - Everything (feat. Marc Mac)
Clara Hill sings about recalling moments of joy and well-being. Beautiful.

Five for Thursday night

Tonight I’ve decided to provide you with my first 5 musical recommendations. Nothing rare, but with love and passion. Stay tuned for the next 5.

  1. Darondo - Didn’t I
Thanks to Gilles Peterson playing his 1973 single on BBC1 and to all other people who mention Darondo (great Jam on this song). This song has scaled up to my all time TOP5 - definitely!
  2. Sam Reed Band - Ambassadors Theme
I can’t write any details about this song, but I still searching for the version where a man sings. Same instrumental but with beautiful male vocals. But this version is great as well.
  3. Menahan Street Band - Home Again!
One of my lovely digs in 2008. Highly recommend. Listen here.
  4. DJ Day/Marvin Gaye - What’s going on
Great reminiscence in Marvins What’s going on. Thanks!
  5. Black Ivory - I keep asking you question
Sampled by Raekwon and one my lovely Soul tunes - nearly every morning.

Concerts in Cologne: Fredrika Stahl

Last Sunday I’ve spent the evening at the 672 in Cologne and enjoyed the Fredrika Stahl concert. Fredrika, she is from sweden, sings something between Jazz and Pop, her voice is awesome (elegant/natural) and yes she is also pretty beautiful. 100% pure talent.
She performed a good show, nothing spectacular, but duly completed with great and beautiful songs, an easy-going atmosphere and an authentic sympathy to her audience - something special. Thanks.

I’ve much appreciated her up-tempo cover version of Stevie Wonders Pastime Paradise. I like the original one, but her version is such drifty and should be available on a limited 45. Please. Altogether a great evening with an extra round.

So what’s next? John Legend, followed by Mr. Raphael Saadiq and Fleur Earth Experiment. YEAH! Stay tuned!
