Have Love Will Travel - Lefties Soul Connection feat. Flomega
The Lefties Soul Connection from Amsterdam have teamed up with Flomega for a double feature 45. YEAH! Have Love Will Travel, a garage punk classic by The Sonics, and originally from Richard Berry & Thoe Pharaoes, is taking the road down to Memphis.
Here Come The Girls on the flipside is a great cover version of the true New Orleans classic from the Ernie K. Doe original which has been re-issued by Soul Jazz Records. Brilliant! Additionally DJ Andy Smith has been re-booted the classic in another great way on Edit Crunch. Brilliant as well, but currently out of stock!
I like the Here Comes The Girls cover even more…, I don’t know why, but I guess due the Bassline and its straightness. Head Banging Good!
Stay tuned for further details.

Para - Rescue Me

Many years ago I’ve started collecting records from Breakin’ Bread Records and came in the treat of minimalist, drifty and great arranged breaks&beats. Especially, I can remember in Keno-1’s & The Hermit’s - Heavy, Heavy a brilliant crowd mover and well sampled from The 2nd Amendment Band. This track is awesome! And yes, I can still remember in an offering from a guy who wanted to pay me 40€ for my second copy, because it seems that this record isn’t still available. Really? Smile.
Tonight I had a quick look to their website again and discovered Para’s 3rd single which will be released Feb 16th 2009. This release means 100% pure dancefloor action - the sound we love and we dance to! Cut and paste style like only Breakin Bread can do it! YEAH!

MPM has new music - YEAH!
Let’s introduce Lucinda Slim: She’s a singer, songwriter and DJ from London where she spins as the resident partner of Keb Darge at Madame JoJo’s (If you are in London have a night at Keb Darges Legendary Deep Funk on every friday! ). Lucinda Slim is an alter ego of Nia Saw, one of the main members of Zap Mama for over a decade. With her new band the Lone Stars, she is blessing us with a gorgeous soul 7inch. “All This Time” is a deep but catchy soul tune produced by Belgian super producer Krewcial. (Source: Melting Pot Music)! More details will definitely come, but don’t forget to mark february 20th in your calendar - the release date!
And yes, keep your eyes and ears wide open, because from my point of view MPM will release even more beautiful music in 2009. Remember, last year MPM brought artists like Kutiman, Fleur Earth, Suff Daddy, Circle Research etc. to us. A brilliant variety of music, with style, soul and funk. It seems their discovery is exhaustless and their they only just begun. So, I looking forward in an exciting musical 2009. Thanks!

Jay’s Soul Connection - Amsterdam Gangster
YEAH! Back again. After a long time without any new articles I am back! The last months of 2008 wound up with lots of private trouble but now everything is good as usual. YEAH!
Today I’ve got an interesting mail from my man Wido (MPM Records) concerning “The dopest funk rap remix” in 2009. Umatic, a producer from Amsterdam mashed up Jay Z vs. Lefties Soul Conncetion (Skimming The Skum). You can expect “No cheap mash-ups but fully produced songs. Mixed, mastered and ….”
So, Ms. and Mr. DJ…I hope you’ll find a copy of these terrific mash-ups. Check out MPM-Records and pray for a limited copy. Sorry, but this is reality.;-)
UPDATE: Download the tracks here.

Mocambo Records

Since two years I keep track on Mocambo Records from Hamburg/Germany. They’ve released a bunch of great limited 45s and there will be a lot of more brilliant output in future. Trust! My most favourite 45 is from the Paris-based band Soul Sugar (Ritual Pt. 1 & 2). In particular the flip side gives you a massive 4 min. breaks galore, with bongos and tight beats. This track is a must for every break DJ and Bboy. Awesome track!!! So because of the worldwide limitation of 300 copies for each release you should always keep in touch with Mocambo!
